New York : M. Ahmed Attaf participe à la réunion de haut niveau de l'AG de l'ONU marquant le 40e anniversaire de la Déclaration sur le droit au développement

The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, participated in New York in the proceedings of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting dedicated to commemorating the fortieth anniversary of the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Right to Development.

In an address delivered on this occasion, the Minister of State emphasized that the right to development, enshrined by the UN Declaration adopted in 1986 as a fundamental human right, assumes renewed significance today in light of persisting poverty and inequalities, the worsening debt burden, and the multiplicity of crises and imbalances witnessed in the international economic system.

Mr. Ahmed Attaf stressed that development goes beyond mere economic growth; rather, it must be comprehensive and sustainable, placing human beings, their dignity, and their well-being at the core of developmental efforts. In this context, he underscored the necessity of respecting the sovereignty of states and their right to determine their development priorities and choices, as well as the right of peoples to self-determination.

Furthermore, the Minister of State called for fostering international solidarity and cooperation, and reforming the international economic and financial system to respond more equitably to the needs of developing countries, reiterating Algeria's commitment to standing in solidarity with African nations and supporting their developmental projects.

Mr. Ahmed Attaf concluded his address by affirming Algeria's support for the adoption of a legally binding international instrument on the right to development, helping to strengthen the international legal framework and ensure the full and effective realization of this right.
