Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Receives the Executive Director of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI)

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lounes Magramane, received today, 20 January 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters, Mr. Sanghyup Kim, Executive Director of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), as part of his working visit to Algeria on 20 and 21 January 2026.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the opportunities and prospects for cooperation between Algeria and the Global Green Growth Institute in the fields of environment, sustainable development, and energy transition, following Algeria’s accession to the Institute in August 2025, in accordance with the high directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

On this occasion, the Secretary General emphasized that Algeria’s accession to this institution falls within the framework of an ambitious national strategy aimed at building international and regional partnerships to address the escalating challenges of climate change and to enhance the environmental sustainability of the national economy.

For his part, the Executive Director of the Institute praised the positive momentum witnessed in cooperative relations since Algeria joined this international organization, which has led to the development of a roadmap encompassing the implementation of concrete projects designed to enhance technical cooperation in line with national priorities across relevant sectors.

The two sides also discussed arrangements related to the preparation of the anticipated visit of the Chair of the Council and the Assembly of the Institute, former United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon, following the invitation extended to him by the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Secretary General presided over the signing ceremony of the Headquarters Agreement, which will enable the Global Green Growth Institute to initiate the practical procedures for opening a representative office in Algeria.

The Global Green Growth Institute is a multilateral international initiative currently chaired by former United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon, aimed at strengthening the technical capacities of its member states in various fields related to green growth and sustainability.
