Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Co-Chairs the Second Session of Algerian-Latvian Political Consultations in Riga

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lounès Magramane, co-chaired, on Monday, February 9, 2026, in Riga, the capital of Latvia, alongside the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Andzejs Vilumsons, the second session of Algerian-Latvian bilateral political consultations.
These consultations provided an opportunity to review the friendly relations between Algeria and Latvia, based on the values of solidarity and mutual respect, as well as to discuss ways to strengthen the institutional and legal framework of bilateral cooperation, notably through encouraging exchanges of visits at various levels.
In this context, both sides reaffirmed their shared willingness to deepen bilateral relations across several fields by exploring opportunities and prospects for enhancing economic and trade cooperation, in line with the assets of both countries, particularly in priority areas such as information and communication technologies, artificial intelligence, start-ups, digitalization, higher education, and scientific research.
At the multilateral level, the two parties agreed on the need to intensify coordination and political consultation within international fora in order to effectively address current challenges. On this occasion, Mr. Lounès Magramane expressed Algeria’s readiness to explore ways of sharing its experience within the United Nations Security Council, as Latvia assumes, for the first time, its mandate as a non-permanent member for the 2026-2027 term.
The two sides also exchanged views and analyses on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, particularly those related to developments in their respective geopolitical regions.
