On Margins of UNGA: Minister of State Ahmed Attaf Holds Talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergueï Lavrov

As part of the fourth day of his participation in the High-Level Week proceedings of the Eighty-First Session of the UN General Assembly, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, met with his counterpart from the Russian Federation, Mr. Sergueï Lavrov. The meeting was dedicated to discussing ways and means to continue strengthening friendship and bilateral cooperation relations across all fields, and expanding the prospects for economic partnership and trade exchange between the two countries.

The two parties also held an in-depth exchange of views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, agreeing to continue consultation and coordination regarding the evolving situation in the Middle East, the Sahel-Saharan region, and Western Sahara, whether on a bilateral level or within multilateral organizations. They underscored the importance of promoting avenues for dialogue and political solutions in full compliance with international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

Furthermore, the two ministers touched upon ongoing preparations for convening the third Russia-Africa Summit, scheduled to be held in Moscow in October 2026, as well as the upcoming Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum at the level of foreign ministers slated for next December.
