New York: Minister of State Ahmed Attaf Represents Algeria at G77 and China Ministerial Meeting, Calling for a Fairer and More Equitable International Order

The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, represented Algeria at the 50th meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Group of 77 and China, held in New York on the sidelines of the High-Level Week proceedings of the Eighty-First Session of the UN General Assembly.

In an address delivered on this occasion, Mr. Ahmed Attaf highlighted the prominent standing enjoyed by this group amid the profound transformations sweeping the international system, which render the unity and solidarity of the Global South an indispensable necessity.

The Minister of State stressed the need for a more equitable multilateral action that places development at the core of priorities and addresses structural imbalances within the international financing system, enabling developing countries to fairly access resources and technology and fostering capacity building.

Furthermore, Mr. Ahmed Attaf called for ensuring that the digital revolution and artificial intelligence do not evolve into a new source of divide between the North and the South, and that technology serves as an instrument for development and the empowerment of peoples, within an inclusive international governance framework where knowledge is neither monopolized nor restricted in its accessibility.

Regarding the confrontation of climate change, the Minister of State reiterated the renewed commitment to the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, given that developing countries, particularly African nations, bear mounting impacts of climate change despite their limited historical and current contributions to its causes. This renders climate finance, technology transfer, and support for the most vulnerable nations responsibilities that must be fulfilled without delay.

Finally, the Minister of State underscored that Algeria, drawing from its commitment to the principles of the 1967 Algiers Charter, will remain steadfastly engaged in reinforcing South-South cooperation, defending the right of peoples to development, and building a more just, inclusive international order that is more responsive to the aspirations of all peoples for growth and prosperity.
