New York: Minister of State Ahmed Attaf Discusses Developments in the Sahel with UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix

The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, held talks today, September 21, 2026, in New York—on the sidelines of his participation in the High-Level Week proceedings of the Eighty-First Session of the UN General Assembly—with Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on the evolution of the situation in the Sahel-Saharan region and the role played by Algeria in supporting peace and stability therein. The two parties also discussed the state of UN peace operations, the challenges confronting them, and ways to enhance their effectiveness, particularly in light of the comprehensive review of these operations and their adaptation to current transformations to ensure the implementation of their mandates, alongside providing the necessary resources to enable them to carry out their assigned missions.
