New York: At Joint Arab League-OIC Ministerial Meeting on Al-Qods, Minister of State Ahmed Attaf Affirms City's Status Is a Matter of Justice and International Legitimacy, Not a Mere Political Item

During his participation in the Joint Ministerial Meeting of the League of Arab States and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Al-Qods, held within the framework of the High-Level Week of the Eighty-First Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, affirmed that the status of Al-Qods is not merely an item on a political agenda, but rather a matter of justice and international legitimacy, and that any unilateral measures aimed at altering the city's character, status, or demographic composition create no rights and confer no legitimacy.

The Minister of State reiterated Algeria's emphasis on the necessity of preserving the historical and legal status quo of Islamic and Christian holy sites, foremost among which is the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque in its entirety, and transitioning toward coordinated Arab and Islamic action within the United Nations and across various international forums to defend the legal status of Al-Qods, counter attempts to impose a fait accompli, and reinforce legal and political protection for the residents of Al-Qods.

Mr. Ahmed Attaf concluded his intervention by stating that protecting the city of Al-Qods, safeguarding its holy sites, and preserving its identity remain a collective responsibility requiring the rejection of occupation, refusing to coexist with it, or turning its violations into an accepted routine.
