Minister of State Ahmed Attaf Participates in 23rd Extraordinary Session of OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah

The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, participated in the proceedings of the 23rd Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States, held on August 27 in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The session witnessed the endorsement of the Mauritanian candidate, Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, as the new Secretary-General of the OIC, succeeding Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha from the Republic of Chad.
The session also provided an opportunity to examine the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories in light of the continued and escalating Israeli violations against the Palestinian people, and the resulting severe deterioration of the humanitarian and security conditions.
In this context, participants emphasized the need to step up efforts and collective action to put an end to Israeli aggression and violations, and to ensure international protection for the Palestinian people, thereby safeguarding their legitimate national rights.
For his part, the Minister of State reaffirmed in his speech Algeria's firm and unwavering stance in support of the Palestinian cause and the inalienable national rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among which is their right to establish their independent and sovereign State with Al-Qods Al-Sharif as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
Mr. Ahmed Attaf also called for an end to Israeli aggression on Arab territories, stressing the necessity of respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity. He underlined the importance of de-escalation and prioritizing dialogue and peaceful means to address crises, creating the necessary conditions to establish security and stability in the Middle East region.
Furthermore, the Minister of State reiterated the importance of enhancing joint Islamic action and unifying positions regarding the challenges facing the Islamic world, enabling the OIC to fulfill its role more effectively in defending the interests of member states and their just causes.
