Minister of State Ahmed Attaf Arrives in New York to Represent Algeria at the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly

Commissioned by the President of the Republic, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, arrived today in New York to represent Algeria at the proceedings of the High-Level Week of the Eighty-First Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Algeria's participation in this high-level UN event comes within the framework of sustaining its active presence in the multilateral action system, and embodying its steadfast commitment to contributing to international efforts aimed at reinforcing international peace and security, defending just causes, and promoting cooperation and solidarity among nations and peoples.

In this context, the Minister of State will participate in the General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly, scheduled to be held from September 22 to 28, 2026, under the theme: "Restoring trust and catalyzing action: United Nations delivering for all."

The high-level segment will witness the organization of several high-level meetings addressing a set of priority issues and challenges on the international agenda, notably the high-level meeting commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development and the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action against racism and racial discrimination, as well as the high-level meeting on sea-level rise and the high-level meeting on climate action and a just transition.

On the sidelines of the high-level segment of the General Assembly proceedings, the Minister of State will participate in a series of ministerial meetings dedicated to discussing a number of regional and international issues, foremost among which are the Palestinian cause, developments in the Middle East, peace and security issues in Africa, alongside digital transitions.

Furthermore, this participation will feature Algeria's presence within various regional and international frameworks and blocs to which it belongs, through participation in coordination meetings and side-line talks for the League of Arab States, the African Union, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Group of 77 and China.

In parallel, the Minister of State will hold a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from sisterly and friendly countries to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and partnership relations, exchange views on prominent current regional and international issues, as well as hold meetings with several senior officials within the United Nations organization and other international organizations.
