Minister of State Ahmed Attaf Participates in Cairo in the 166th Ordinary Session of the Arab League Council

The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, participated today in Cairo in the proceedings of the 166th Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, held on September 7, 2026.

The meeting, chaired by the sisterly Republic of Tunisia, addressed a range of items on its agenda, foremost among which were the latest developments in the Palestinian cause, alongside the rapid developments unfolding in the Arab Gulf region amidst military escalation, as well as the tense situations in several Arab nations.

The Council adopted a series of resolutions reflecting steadfast Arab positions regarding these issues, underscoring the imperative of enhancing Arab solidarity and intensifying efforts to address the challenges and crises confronting the region, in addition to examining and adopting several decisions related to the operations of the League's General Secretariat.

Delivering an address during the session, the Minister of State reaffirmed Algeria's unwavering stance in support of the Palestinian people, their just cause, and their legitimate, inalienable rights—chief among which is the right to establish an independent, sovereign State within recognized borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Furthermore, Mr. Ahmed Attaf renewed Algeria's full solidarity with Arab states subject to aggression, emphasizing the necessity of adopting a comprehensive approach to resolving regional crises by addressing their root causes and prioritizing political solutions and dialogue to ensure the restoration of security and stability, as well as the preservation of the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Arab states.

In a related context, the Minister of State stressed the importance of elevating joint Arab action and enhancing its efficiency, highlighting Algeria's support for the reform process of the Arab League and the modernization of its working mechanisms to enable it to play a more effective role in safeguarding shared Arab interests and responding to the growing challenges posed by rapid regional developments.
